Basshunter pips Britney to top chart

LONDON (Reuters) - Basshunter's Euro dance track "Now You're Gone" fought off troubled pop star Britney Spears to become Britain's new number one single.
Spears's single "Piece of Me" climbed 17 places to two, but Basshunter -- the pseudonym used by Swedish DJ Jonas Altberg -- went one better as "Now You're Gone" rose 13 places to take top spot, the Official UK Charts Company said on Sunday.
Earlier this month Spears spent almost two days in a Los Angeles hospital after being taken from her home on a stretcher follow a standoff with police after hysterically refusing to hand back her two children to ex-husband Kevin Federline.
Spears's life has careered out of control since she divorced Federline in 2006. She lost custody of the boys last year.
Soulja Boy's "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" dropped one place to three, with Canadian rock band Nickelback's "Rockstar" at four, while former X-Factor winner Leon Jackson -- last week's number one -- slipped to number five with "When You Believe".
There was just one new entry in the singles chart's top 10 with U.S. rapper Lupe Fiasco and "Superstar" coming in at number seven.
The album charts also had a new number one with Scottish singer-songwriter Amy MacDonald's debut long player -- "This is The Life" -- pushing rock band Radiohead's "In Rainbows" down to two.
The success of MacDonald, whose record first entered the charts in August, ensured the Oxford-based quintet's seventh studio album held top spot for just one week.
There were no new entries in the album chart's top 10, though Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant's collaboration with bluegrass singer Alison Krauss -- "Raising Sand" -- made a strong showing, rising 16 places to number six.

Eerily, Spears declares in the magazine interview that she'd "die for her boys" - a sentiment that's all the more chilling given her seemingly disposable attitude towards life.
What makes the mag's cover photo all the more poignant is the fact that it was Spears' last photo taken with her boys before they were handed over to K-Fed for full custody.
Intervention
Britney Spears is a mess and needs help - quickly - before she burns out and fades away completely.
Mercifully, her family is reportedly now of the same opinion.
TMZ claims that Britney's parents - her dad in particular - has been earnestly trying to get his daughter committed to a mental hospital, for what he thinks is a bipolar disorder, for months.Dad Jamie Spears has been vocal about his opinion that Britney is suffering from a mental disorder and not a drug abuse problem for a while, and now we know why.
He's reportedly been crafting various plots to get her committed, but that Spears has flatly refused to undergo any tests which could confirm her supposed bipolar condition.
TMZ also states that Spears' parents believe that their daughter's best mate Sam Lutfi has been instrumental in her refusal to seek help.
The parents are so furious with Lutfi, they allegedly threw him out of the Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre last Friday when Spears was admitted for medical intervention.
Britney Spears will be getting professional help - whether she likes it or not.
Her family members are said to now be working together to hatch a series of crafty plans to get Brit Brit some mental help.
TMZ says the family's intervention will be swift, and that it will definitely happen.
Spears has so far declined any help and is on a rampage of self destruction.
Sources say that the Spears clan is considering a "series of options", some of which are "creative".
One of least likely options is that they will go to court and gain an order which will force Spears to seek in-patient treatment.
A more credible option could be that Spears would be collared by cops again under a "5150", which basically means she'd be whisked off to hospital (a la Freaky Friday), and admitted to a psych unit.
Meanwhile, the folk in white suits would meet with the County Public Guardian, who could go to court and seek a "conservatorship."
That conservator would basically take control of Spears' life.

In other Britney news&LAPD officers are said to have issued a restraining order against Spears last week after her spectacular stand-off with the law.
Called an "emergency protective order," the officers issued the order to "stabilize the situation," says Kevin Federline's attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan.
LAPD spokesman Mike Lopez says: "The person it's placed upon would have to stay approximately 100 feet from the other person, or face arrest.
"In most cases, it's issued by officers when there's the possibility of imminent and immediate danger to the victim."
K-Fed's lawyer adds: "Kevin doesn't want to keep his kids from being involved in [Spears's] life. But foremost is that the kids be in an environment of structure [and] stability. Britney Spears' family is gunning for TV psych Dr. Phil after he breached their trust and spoke to the media about his visit to see Spears in hospital last week.
Speaking via their representative Lou Taylor on US Television, the Spears clan feel betrayed by "self-serving" Dr. Phil, after he spoke out publicly about the troubled pop princess.
Taylor told the Today show that Dr. Phil had breached their trust by blabbing about his visit, and that they never agreed to appear on his television show either.
"He was not invited to make this a public display," says Taylor.
"What's wrong with Dr. Phil's statement is that he made a statement.
"The family, basically, extended an invitation of trust for him to come in as a resource to support them, not to go out and make public statements."

Meanwhile, the photo agency embroiled in a scandal for supposedly touting candid pictures of Spears to the press, is claiming Brit Brit and paparazzo boytoy Adnan Ghalib are an item.
"Britney Spears and Adnan Ghalib ARE happily dating," says agency Finalpixx in a statement posted on their website.
Adding that 35-year-old married Ghalib "is absolutely NOT shopping his story."

John Turley-Ewart: Did Dr. Phil violate patient confidentiality in the Britney Spears' case?

Following my post criticizing the distasteful opportunism displayed by Dr. Phil — who used a visit to Britney Spears in hospital to promote his own TV show — today's news that Britney's family say Dr. "Tough Love" crossed the line leads me to wonder if Dr. Phil is guilty of more than opportunism. Did he also breach patient confidentiality that medical professionals are expected to uphold?
A spokesman for Britney's mother is quoted today saying "The [Spears] family basically extended an invitation of trust for him to come in as a resource to support them, not to go out and make public statements. Any statement publicly that he made, because he was brought in under this cloak of trust, (is) just inappropriate."
Certainly "inappropriate" is a useful word to describe Dr. Phil's actions. The question that must now be asked of Dr. Phil is whether he is guilty of professional misconduct in this sad affair that has all the appearance of a daytime talk show host putting his own ambitions ahead of the well-being of a troubled 26-year-old woman and her family who turned to him for help.

Apparently she only talked to him for 15-minutes and not a full hour like he said in his press release. Phil was sent over there by the Spears family. He wanted to do a TV intervention (think of the raings!!!) and Brit wasn't having that.

And where's Brit now? Some are saying she's at home, some are saying she's completely disappeared and some say she's in NYC with Alli Sims. NYC?! I'm fucked. I have the Scientologists on my ass and now Britzilla? I won't see 2009.

Adnan To The Rescue?

So......Britney went home with her daddy after being released from the hospital this morning. He stayed with her for most of the morning and early afternoon, but now she's on her own. Her mother and sister are still in Kentwood, LA despite reports that they were at the hospital with her.
PageSix.com reports that Brit drove outside her gates shortly after her father left, but saw the paps and quickly turned around. A few minutes later she reportedly came back out and has been driving around Los Angeles and that she's hooked up with her pap boy-toy, Adnan Ghalib. Adnan is still married and he reportedly only got married for a green card. He's a catch. Sam Lutfi is reportedly looking for Britney and wants to get him away from Adnan. This is some daytime drama shit. Marlena from Days of Our Lives ain't got nothing on Britney!
Sam apparently wants to help Brit get the help she needs. Um...yeah. What took him so long? He probably needs her to sign a check.

Britney Spears taken from her home in ambulance after 3-hour standoff

LOS ANGELES - A bizarre new chapter is unfolding in the life of Britney Spears, with the troubled pop star hospitalized today "for her own welfare" after a three-hour standoff involving her two young sons.
With paparazzi swarming the ambulance doors, Spears was whisked away late Thursday, nearly three hours after police arrived at her home in a gated community. No injuries were reported.
Police initially said it appeared the 26-year-old Spears was under the influence of an unknown substance but Officer April Harding said today she could not confirm that or other reports that Spears was hospitalized for mental evaluation.

"For her own welfare, she was transferred to a local hospital for medical treatment," Harding said, declining to elaborate.
Spears was conscious as the ambulance left her home escorted by a row of police cars. A horde of paparazzi chased the ambulance, their strobes going off as they held their cameras up to the vehicle’s rear window.
Another group of videographers met the ambulance at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, banging on the ambulance doors.
Cedars spokeswoman Simi Singer said she could neither confirm nor deny that Spears was at the hospital, citing patient confidentiality laws.
Officers were called to Spears’ house around 8 p.m. Thursday for an issue involving custody of 2-year-old Sean Preston and 1-year-old Jayden James, Harding said.
By about 10:30 p.m., six police cars, two ambulances and a fire truck had entered the gated-community, where Spears has a $4.5 million, five-bedroom, six-bathroom home in the Santa Monica Mountains above Beverly Hills.
Several police cars were seen in the area earlier in the night.
Spears turned over the children around 10:50 p.m., Officer Jason Lee said.
Spears and ex-husband Kevin Federline have been involved in a long and very public custody battle. Federline, 29, has temporary custody of the children because Spears, who has limited visitation rights, has defied court orders. The two were married in October 2004 and divorced in July.
Attorneys for Spears and Federline were in court today to discuss child custody arrangements.
Tara Scott, representing Spears, and Federline’s attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, spent about 30 minutes in chambers with Los Angeles County Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon, who has been handling the custody case. They made no comments to reporters.
Spears’ life has spiraled downward during the past year. She has been photographed without underwear and appeared to be drunk and out-of-control in public. She shaved her head, beat a car with an umbrella and spent a month in rehab, and has had a handful of fender benders, including one in which she ran over a photographer’s foot.
Earlier Thursday, Spears appeared for a deposition in her custody dispute. Spears was questioned for just 14 minutes, Kaplan told reporters after Spears left.
Spears called in sick for a Dec. 12 court-ordered deposition, but was photographed that day driving with a friend. She also didn’t show up for a session Wednesday, Kaplan said.
Spears’ attorneys from the firm Trope and Trope on Wednesday filed a court motion asking to be relieved due to a "breakdown" in communication with their client.
Kaplan said Spears’ attorneys were present for what became a very abbreviated session, which had been scheduled to last two hours.

"You can imagine in 14 minutes there’s not a lot of time to develop questions," he said.
Kaplan said another deposition would be scheduled.

LOS ANGELES - A court commissioner gave sole physical and legal custody of Britney Spears’ two little boys Friday to ex-husband Kevin Federline and suspended the troubled pop star’s visitation rights.
Spears was hauled away from her home to a hospital by paramedics a day before, after police had to intervene when she refused to return the children to Federline after a court-monitored visit.
Commissioner Scott Gordon ordered another hearing to be held Jan. 14.
Federline had previously been awarded temporary custody of 2-year-old Sean Preston and 1-year-old Jayden James because Spears has defied court orders, resulting in limitations on her visitation.
"I’m not happy about any of these events," Federline attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan said when he left a closed-door emergency hearing Friday afternoon. "There’s no winners here."
Federline was not in court for the hearing, Kaplan said.
The attorney had said he did not expect the ruling to be released until Monday, but it was issued shortly after the hearing concluded.
Law professor Steve Cron, who is not involved in the Spears-Federline matter, predicted that Spears will face sanctions from the court for her behavior.
"My guess is that she won’t be seeing her kids for a while," said Cron, who teaches at Pepperdine University in Malibu.
Gordon has little option other than to further reduce the time Spears can legally spend with her children, Cron said, "at least for the time being until she gets some help. She’s obviously a very troubled person."
The 26-year-old pop star remained hospitalized Friday.
Her latest troubles began around 8 p.m. Thursday when officers were called to her home to help resolve a dispute over her refusal to turn the children over to Federline, as dictated by their custody agreement.

Britney Spears was released - probably against doctors’ advice - from Cedars-Sinai Hospital in La-La Land yesterday with TV host Dr. Phil at her side, according to several gossip Web sites.
The trainwrecktastic pop star was admitted to the hospital for psychological evaluation after a standoff with police at her Beverly Hills home. She reportedly locked herself and young son Jayden James, 15 months, in a bathroom. Spears was placed on a “5150 hold,” meaning medical workers determined she presented a threat to herself or others. The order allowed the hospital to keep her against her will for up to 72 hours.
“Entertainment Tonight” reported that Spears escaped the paparazzi by exiting the hospital through an underground tunnel with Dr. Phil.
Perezhilton.com quoted a hospital source saying that Spears was medicated at the hospital. The source said hospital personnel could not hold her once she ceased to be a risk. She likely left against medical advice, the site said.
According to celebrity gossip site TMZ, Spears most likely suffers from bipolar disorder and was probably not under the influence, as was suspected at the time of Thursday night’s incident.
The most recent chapter in Spears’ saga began around 8:30 Thursday night when she refused to hand over sons Jayden James and Sean Preston, 2, after a visit. Paramedics rolled the hysterical Spears out of her home on a gurney.
A source told Usmagazine.com that Brit had to be strapped to the gurney and that she fluctuated between laughter and hysterics, leading police to believe she was under the influence of an unknown substance.
Spears’ ex-hubby Kevin Federline has been granted sole physical and legal custody of the boys.

In an exclusive interview with E! News' Jason Kennedy, Lutfi gave fresh details and insight into Britney's condition and progress while the troubled pop star was undergoing psychiatric observation at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Britney Released from Hospital

After a little more than 24 hours at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, E! News has confirmed that Britney Spears has been released from the hospital, despite previous reports that she was to be held under a minimum three-day lockdown.
Shortly after her admittance via ambulance just after midnight Thursday, the singer was placed on a "5150 hold," meaning medical workers had determined she posed a danger either to herself or others. As a result, she was to be held for 72 hours, during which time she was to undergo a battery of physical and psychological tests.
However, medical officials have the authority to lift the hold at any time during a patient's stay, should they be determined to no longer pose a threat. Spears' early release indicates she was granted the medical and psychological all-clear.
According to The Insider, Spears made her exit from Cedars-Sinai early Saturday morning via an underground tunnel at the facility. The show also reports that none other than Dr. Phil McGraw was on hand to escort the singer off the premises.
"My meeting with Britney and some family members this morning in her room at Cedars leaves me convinced more than ever that she is in dire need of both medical and psychological intervention," the TV doctor told Entertainment Tonight, adding that his being at the hospital when she was released was merely coincidence.
"She was released moments before my arrival and was packing when I entered the room. We visited for about an hour before I walked with her to her car."
Spears is now back at her Studio City home with father Jamie Spears.
News of her release comes in the wake of confirmation from Spears pal Sam Lutfi that the 26-year-old was doing much better than she had been during the precipitating hours-long custody standoff.
"She is doing a lot better than Thursday night, she's reached out to her mom and Jamie Lynn and they've been in constant contact…they have shown wonderful support," Lufti told E! News exclusively Friday night, adding that Spears would not be at the hospital for any longer than the hold required of her.
It's unclear if any of Spears' supportive family members were on hand for her release early Saturday.
Father Jamie is the only official family member to be caught by paparazzi entering Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, which he did early Friday morning, along with Lutfi. According to People, her mother Lynne and sister Jamie Lynn have remained in their hometown of Kentwood, Louisiana.
While Kevin Federline was also present at the hospital when his 26-year-old ex-wife was first being admitted for a battery of physical and psychological tests, Lutfi made clear that Federline was only there to check on his children, Sean Preston and Jayden James, the latter of whom was also briefly checked out by doctors—as is standard for children in the wake of such a traumatic experience—before given the medical okay.
He was not, as has been reported, there to visit Spears. When asked if the 29-year-old father had seen or spoken to the singer since Thursday night's incident, Lutfi gave E! News a quite adamant, "No!"
As for what specifically went down Thursday night, Lutfi offered no new specifics on the standoff that culminated in Spears locking herself in a room with one-year-old son Jayden and ended with the "Gimme More" singer being transported via ambulance to Cedars-Sinai.
However, he did say that he believed the media and legal circus that resulted from the evening was mishandled but that he did not begrudge the LAPD for following protocal, saying the officers remained at the Studio City home for so long because they "wanted to make sure they were following proper procedure and abiding by the court documents."
Still, he said he wished "that the whole situation was handled better."

Britney out of hospital, still needs psychological help

BEIJING, Jan. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- Britney Spears checked out of a Los Angeles hospital Saturday where she was admitted following a custodial dispute with her ex-husband at her home, but she is "in dire need of both medical and psychological intervention," media reported Sunday.
The intoxicated singer was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center by paramedics Thursday night after police were called to her home because of a dispute involving the two sons she had with Kevin Federline. The dispute ended in a fit of hysterics by the troubled pop star.
Britney was visited Saturday by Dr. Phil McGraw, who counsels people on his popular television program, "The Dr. Phil Show."
McGraw said though Britney was released from hospital but she still needs psychological help.
"My meeting with Britney and some family members this morning in her room at Cedars leaves me convinced more than ever that she is in dire need of both medical and psychological intervention," he said.
The New York Post's PageSix.com cited a "family insider" as saying Britney had "a complete nervous breakdown."
A spokeswoman for the hospital declined comment citing patient confidentiality.
Federline's attorneys went to a Los Angeles family court on Friday and obtained a ruling that suspended Britney's visitation rights to her two sons, Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1, until Jan. 14.
