Britney Spears to get one more chance at visitation rights on Monday

Lawyers, cops, emergency workers, and such will go before Commissioner Scott Gordon on Monday to dicuss whether or not Britney Spears is sane enough to ever visit with her two sons again. The big question is: will Britney show up for the hearing?
Spears isn't required to attend, but according to TMZ the trainwreck's attorney wants her there. Britney's legal team knows that someone will have to defend her actions following the televised breakdown and standoff at her house the week before last.
Britney's attorney seems sick of having to stand up for Spears when she won't even show up to defend herself. TMZ is also reporting that the LAPD refuses to help Britney get in and out of the courtroom if she shows up. I guess they too are tired of dealing with her too.
The former pop star needs to put together a solid plan tomorrow or she may not even get a chance at visitation rights with her children between now and her next trial in April.
Monday's hearing is guaranteed to be juicy whether Britney shows or not.

Britney Chooses Deposition Over Jail

Just a day after her lawyers deemed her "impossible," Britney Spears has put on her cooperative face and appeared at her long-awaited deposition.

What finally got the 26-year-old mom of two to K-Fed lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan's office? Sources tell PageSix.com that Kaplan was planning to ask Judge Scott Gordon to hold the singer in civil contempt for failing to show at multiple depositions, which would have put the pop tart behind bars.

Brit, who was scared away from her last scheduled deposition by swarms of cameras at Kaplan's office, arrived at 10.15am PST with ever-present friend Sam Lutfi by her side.

Brit Was a No Show at Her Depo

TMZ has learned Britney Spears' deposition was scheduled today and she didn't show -- again!If we're counting correctly, this is the fifth time her scheduled deposition in the custody case didn't happen. Last month, Britney claimed she was too ill to sit for her depo, yet TMZ caught her out partying that same night.Sources say the fact that she didn't show for the depo was a factor in her lawyers' decision to file papers today asking to withdraw as counsel, but it was only one of many reasons. As one connected source put it, "Her whole life has become insane and it's impossible for anyone to get through to her."

Britney Spears's Attorney Wants to Quit

Britney Spears's lawyer, Sorrell Trope, filed a request Wednesday to withdraw from the singer's custody case, court documents show. "There has been a breakdown in communications between (Spears) and Trope & Trope (law firm) making further representation of her interests impossible," says the document. Trope gave no further details. But he told PEOPLE the ultimate decision to quit isn't up to him. "A lawyer cannot simply withdraw from a case," he says. "We will ask the court to relieve us, which will be heard (in court) within a month's time."The next hearing for Spears and Kevin Federline is set for Feb. 19. TMZ is reporting that Trope & Trope, Britney's custody lawyers, have filed legal papers withdrawing as Britney's lawyers. In the legal papers, attorney Tara Scott from Trope and Trope wrote, "There has been a breakdown in communications between [Britney] and Trope and Trope making further representation of her interests impossible."There is no word on whether Britney currently has a new lawyer to represent her in the on-going custody battle.

Spears' lawyers ask to quit custody case

LOS ANGELES - Britney Spears' lawyers in her custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline are quitting.
The law firm Trope and Trope asked a court Wednesday to be relieved as Spears' attorneys. The firm says there's been a "breakdown" in communication with the pop princess that makes representing her "impossible," according to the filing, obtained by CelebTV.com.
A message left with a publicist for Spears' record label was not immediately returned.
Spears and Federline have been wrangling for months over custody of their sons, 2-year-old Sean Preston and 1-year-old Jayden James.
Federline has temporary custody because Spears, who has limited visitation rights, has defied court orders. The two were married in October 2004 and finalized their divorce in July.
On a separate legal front, an attorney for Spears wants the city attorney's office to prove that the pop star is a permanent California resident and is subject to state laws that require her to have a valid California driver's license.
Spears faces up to a year of probation if convicted in a misdemeanor case of driving without a valid license, a charge to which she has pleaded not guilty. The case stems from a videotaped fender-bender in a parking lot in August. A hit-and-run charge has been dismissed.
Spears attorney J. Michael Flanagan earlier Wednesday requested that prosecutors be required to demonstrate that Spears, who owns homes in Louisiana and Florida, intends to make Los Angeles her permanent legal home.
"If they can establish that Britney is domiciled here in California, that she permanently intends to stay here, then she does have a requirement to get a license," Flanagan said in an interview. "Basically, it's a fix-it ticket."
Flanagan said Spears had a valid Louisiana license at the time of the incident and got a California license six days after the complaint was filed.
A call seeking comment from the city attorney's office was not immediately returned. The next court date is Jan. 25.
