Britney Chooses Deposition Over Jail

Just a day after her lawyers deemed her "impossible," Britney Spears has put on her cooperative face and appeared at her long-awaited deposition.

What finally got the 26-year-old mom of two to K-Fed lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan's office? Sources tell PageSix.com that Kaplan was planning to ask Judge Scott Gordon to hold the singer in civil contempt for failing to show at multiple depositions, which would have put the pop tart behind bars.

Brit, who was scared away from her last scheduled deposition by swarms of cameras at Kaplan's office, arrived at 10.15am PST with ever-present friend Sam Lutfi by her side.

Britney Spears's Quickie Deposition

Britney's visit to the Los Angeles office of Kevin Federline's attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, didn't go exactly as planned on Thursday. She was 90 minutes late, and left after less than a quarter hour of questioning. The singer, wearing a hot pink dress and heels, arrived for her despostion after numerous previous failures to show. Less than an hour later, she drove off in her white Mercedes without speaking to the press. Yet back at her Beverly Hills home, when a photographer asked if Kaplan was nice to her, Spears responded with an emphatic, "No!" Spears, 26, was expected to be grilled about her past drug and alcohol use, her apparent failure to follow court orders and other matters that might pertain to her parenting skills. Asked if he got information he was looking for, Kaplan replied stoically, "In 14 minutes?" He described her demeanor as "cooperative," and said the appointment was only scheduled from 9:45 to 11:45 a.m. "I would've preferred it had gone on longer," he said. The attorney added that he hasn't decided whether to pursue sanctions against Spears for being late. He also said another deposition appointment had been set, but gave no details. Although he said Spears gave a reason for being an hour and a half late, he did not specify what the excuse was.source:People

Breaking News: Britney Barely Makes It To Deposition

As first reported by OK!, following her decision on Wednesday to blow off her second court-ordered — and seventh in total — deposition in her custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline, Britney Spears was given one final chance to make good on her legal responsibilities. All she had to do was show up today at 9:45 a.m. PT to give her deposition.
And yet, Britney, sporting a bright fuschia halter dress and black Christian Louboutin heels — "She was strutting like a supermodel," one witness tells OK! — didn't arrive at the office of K-Fed's lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan until over 90 minutes later at 11:20am PT.So where was she all morning? The troubled singer left her home in Beverly Hills around 10:15 a.m., only to turn her car around and head back into her gated community. At first, her wingman Sam Lutfi, who was in the car's passenger seat, told members of the paparazzi that Britney would indeed show. And then OK! heard that Britney had sent her limo driver and Sam away, and that she would NOT be at the deposition! And then, just after 11am, Brit was spotted driving herself in her white Mercedes in the direction of Century City, where Kaplan's office is located. Slightly before noon, Brit emerged from Kaplan's office and drove off with her assistant Carla now along for the ride. Why such a short deposition? "It had been scheduled from 9:45 to 11:45 so she could be back home in time to be there when the boys arrived for their visitation day," explains an insider. "This was basically a big F-U to Kaplan by Britney. She showed up as late as she possibly could and left as quickly as she could."In a press conference following the deposition, Kaplan confirmed that the proceedings eventually began at 11:32am and ended at 11:45am. "Fourteen minutes is not a lot of time to develop a line of questions," Kaplan, who surprisingly described Britney as "cooperative," explained. He also told reporters that, as reported by OK! earlier today, there is a second day already scheduled for further deposing of the pop star. Britney arrived back at her Beverly Hills home shortly after noon and is now with her visiting children until the end of their scheduled time with mommy at 7pm tonight.

Brit Was a No Show at Her Depo

TMZ has learned Britney Spears' deposition was scheduled today and she didn't show -- again! If we're counting correctly, this is the fifth time her scheduled deposition in the custody case didn't happen. Last month, Britney claimed she was too ill to sit for her depo, yet TMZ caught her out partying that same night.Sources say the fact that she didn't show for the depo was a factor in her lawyers' decision to file papers today asking to withdraw as counsel, but it was only one of many reasons. As one connected source put it, "Her whole life has become insane and it's impossible for anyone to get through to her."
